You’ll use the latest products from Weather Central/WSI to provide forecasts across multiple platforms. The primary job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to analyzing weather data and preparing an accurate forecast for our weekend newscast and serving as the primary substitute meteorologist for our weekday newscasts. Southwest Louisiana’s KPLC-TV seeks a degreed meteorologist to join the First Alert Weather Team. KPLC began broadcasting in the summer of 1954 and is consistently on of the nation's most innovative and most watched television stations, ranking among the top 5 Nielsen rated stations nationally throughout the year. Lake Charles is the fifth-largest city in Louisiana. Situated along Lake Charles and the Calcasieu River, Lake Charles is known for it's industry, booming economy and culture. KPLC is located in beautiful Lake Charles, Louisiana. Through upgrading to the latest technology and seeking new ways to stay on top in our markets, we focus on training and development of the best and brightest employees in the business. Ben is a resident of Lake Charles.Gray Television is a leading media company that owns and operates high-quality stations in 113 television markets that collectively reach 36 percent of US television households. An active member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association, Ben currently served as past president of the Southeast Texas/Southwest Louisiana Chapter of the AMS/NWA and looks forward to attending the National Weather Association's annual meeting each fall. Keeping the residents of Southwest Louisiana safe from threatening weather is Ben's main mission, and the resources and technology available at KPLC make that possible with all of the social media platforms and mobile apps available for alerting the public. Over the years Ben has been a part of significant upgrades to the weather technology at KPLC with the addition of the Skycam network and latest WSI weather system, keeping Southwest Louisiana up to date with the latest and greatest forecasting and storm tracking technology. ![]() ![]() Ben also enjoys visiting local schools to get young students interested in the sciences and meeting folks in the community by volunteering to emcee numerous charitable events across Southwest Louisiana during his off time. When not on-air or forecasting the weather for Southwest Louisiana, Ben involves himself with numerous charitable organizations throughout Southwest Louisiana including the Ad and Press Club, American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana and the Louisiana/Mississippi Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, founding a local support group for those coping with the diseases. He then came to KPLC in 2011 to join the morning team on 7News Sunrise which has now expanded to FOX 29 with the morning news. A 2006 graduate of Mississippi State University's on-campus Broadcast Meteorologist program, Ben began his broadcast career nearly 15 years ago in Jackson, Mississippi. ![]() Ben Terry has been the morning and midday meteorologist at KPLC since 2011. ![]()
